アテンションプリーズ, SP Honolulu, SP Sydney
A remake of a 1970 serial after 36 yrs, アテンションプリーズ's storyline focuses on the training of future cabin attendants for Japan Airlines. It gives an inside view of the various etiquette classes and behaviors that would-be CAs have to master before they are presented in front of passengers.
Ueto Aya as Misaki Yoko, who lost her mum at a young age and was raised in an all male family, resulting in her boyish character. She became the lead singer of a punk band with 4 boys and has not had a girl friend since young.
When her crush in the band had to relocate to Tokyo for work, the band was disbanded and she missed her chance to confess to him. At the airport, the boys were excited over the uniformed CAs, including her crush, which made Yoko decide to join the JAL recruitment.
At the interview, Yoko shows up in her outlandish punk outfit whereas the other candidates were all in their neat office suits. She chanced upon Wakamura Yayoi (Aibu Saki) exiting the room after her interview and pulled her into the ladies, forcing her to swap clothes with her, even thou that was the first time they met.
Surprisingly Yoko was accepted and made a loud appearance at the orientation ceremony 5 min before the ceremony starts in the filled hall. Although she is up to her neck just by being in an all-girls class with a strict lady instructor, she found friends in Yayoi and Sekiyama Yuki (Otsuka Chihiro) and slowly understands Mikami Kyoukan's intentions.
Yayoi, Yoko and Yuki upon hearing that their punishment for "stealing" the model away was cleaning duties for a week.
Mikami Tamaki (Maya Miki) is the disciplinarian instructor of Yoko's class. Thou on the surface she seems to be picking on every little fault of Yoko, making Yoko extremely rebellious against her, she actually has great expectations of Yoko and does not want her to follow the same footsteps as an ex-CA whom Mikami was in charge of. Yoko, to the instructors and directors, is the exact copy of that CA who had failed to save an unconscious man on a flight and suffered from post-trauma depression. She was killed in an accident shortly after the incident. After the incident, Mikami was transferred to the training department where she met Yoko years after and is determined to train Yoko to be a first class CA, both mentally and physically.
Nakahara Shota (Nishikido Ryo) attended the Pilot Academy to be a commercial pilot until a checkup revealed that he had an injury in his eye causing him not to have perfect eyesight. Due to his love for planes, he switched career to be an aircraft engineer instead, working behind the scenes to ensure the safety of the passengers.
Shota had a chance meeting with Yoko on her day of the orientation, where after bumping into him at the train station, she accused him of stealing her ticket. Later on, she found out that he was working in the hanger of the same building and starts to disturb him every now and then, that being her break from the intense all girls environment during training. Yoko, being direct and unreserved, infuriated Shota on numerous occasions but they became close friends as time goes on. There were some love chemistry between the both of them but neither of them took any action to further the relationship.
Koizumi Kotaro gets the playboy role as Tsutsumi Shuusuke, a trainee pilot whom Yoko nicknames "Crow" as unstriped uniforms of a trainee pilot resembles the all black bird. He initially tries to use his glib tongue to advance in his career but eventually works hard to qualify as a co-pilot after being inspired by Shota. Nearing the end of the series, he sends the wrong signals to Yuki by saying she's cute and henceforth pulls the other side of her from her usual gentleness.
The series is filled with laughters, mainly at Yoko, but otherwise is inspirational for aspiring CAs.
